alastair jackson photography about me page

Alastair grew up on the Isle of Skye. His subject matter reflects his upbringing, and his interest in wandering the hills and coast bring a psychogeographical dimension to his images, along with his interest in the history and culture of the Highlands

2019 saw the publication of his first book,The Spirit of the Hebrides with writer Kenneth Steven, which was longlisted for The Highland Book Prize

In addition, he has sought to collaborate with a range of other artists, such as Kate McMorrine Moira Buchanan, photographer Ingrid Budge and broadcaster & record producer John Cavanagh

In March 2021, he had a photozine published by ADM Publishing entitled 'Past and Futures Present' which takes a different approach to documenting Skye than the usual tourist book of mountains and lochs. (It is now sold out)

During 2022 & 2023, he travelled sustainably through Scotland's west coast islands with a rucksack, camera & tent, with a view to documenting life and landscape on over 40 of these landfalls. You can read about these in the bi-monthly Scottish Islands Explorer Magazine or alternatively in the forthcoming book (Mar '25)
The subsequent book, will have a foreword by Scottish West Coast Isles In Photographs. BBC Presenter
Paul Murton who is himself a great advocate for the Scottish outdoors.

He also published his first non-photography book in 2024 via Earth Island Books
